If you are refinishing with water-based coats, the drying process is faster: You can use your floor six hours after the last coat is applied.

Sometimes your old wood cannot be sanded too many times because of its limited thickness. A buff or a light sand is then preferred. However, a buff will not be able to take away scratches as well as a sanding. After the floor is buffed, one coat of finish will be put down. This process only takes one day and you can use the floor 24 hours after the finishing coat is applied.

An installation of hardwood flooring will take from two to three days, depending on the scope of the job. Usually it takes about one day to put the wood down, and two more days to sand and refinish the new wood.

Staining is the process of coloring your floor before the refinishing process occurs. A staining job will take two to three days, depending upon the size of the areas being done. You can pick and choose your color using the stain chart on this page.

Oftentimes your floor only needs one or two pieces of old wood replaced, due to heavy abuse around certain areas. The length of time needed for this work varies but usually takes about two to three hours.
